Send Flowers For Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day has, for hundreds of years, been associated with tokens of love. One of the most popular, if not essential, Valentine's day gifts for a girl or woman has been flowers. It is more romantic, maybe, to actually present the flowers to your love, but in these days of online and telephone ordering, it is now more common to send flowers.
Over the years the rose has become the symbol of romance, love and Valentine's Day. However, if you want to send flowers to the lady in your life, you do not have to send roses. You can send any other types of flowers that will please her and make her feel special. If you know her well, then you may know of other flowers she may prefer and you can send those instead.
However, be warned. Even if you send her favourite flowers, you must be sure she will not be thinking "why didn't he send me roses?" Roses are such a strong symbol of romance and love, to send no roses may not be a wise move; that, of course, is for you to judge. On the other hand, you could send roses to her, and she demands to know why you did not send flowers she likes? Maybe it's safer to send two lots of flowers!
For Valentine Day 2005, my wife had actually said not to spend money on roses. I had a very expensive trip to make, and she is the budget manager in our house. When I called to see what date my appointment was going to be, I was told it would be February 14.
"Aaaah," I exclaimed, "Valentine's Day. I'll have to bring my wife."
And so it was, my wife joined me on the flight for a few days away, with our 14 month old daughter. We went for an absolutely wonderful meal in Cebu on Valentine's Day, and the picture (top) shows the included rose. Later in the evening, though, an enterprising young lady came around the tables selling fresh roses at a grossly inflated price. How could I say "no"? I was mellow with red wine, my wife was happy after her cocktails, and my daughter was having a great time fluttering her eyelids at a tall, handsome waiter. The roses just topped off the evening to perfection.
So, in that case, I did not send flowers, they came to us.
